BBC East Midlands
Willson House • Derby Road • Nottingham [1970s]
This page features images from the BBC's East Midlands TV studios, which were based on the top floor of Willson House, Derby Road, Nottingham until the mid-1980s.

Photographs/background information: Terry Bracey, former BBC Engineer, BBC East Midlands.
Above: a photo of the set for 'Dennis McCarthy's Weekly Echo', which was transmitted on the late night Friday slot on BBC Midlands during the 1970s. The studio was all of 20 x 10 foot, yet all the output for the show came from this tiny studio, including musical acts. Note the girl in the studio shot wearing a green boiler suit, is Sue Beardsmore, now a BBC Midlands presenter.
Above: in this shot, the man with his hand on the somewhat makeshift director's console (note mic and beer emblem) is Roger Casstles, producer/director of 'The Clothes Show' for many years. It was his idea to produce a show from this distant outpost of the BBC which was once described by Les Dawson as 'a technological cupboard'.
Above: the control room console. Very BBC.
